While financial spread betting itself is a relatively straight forward concept to understand, some of the underlying principles of market investment may seem a little daunting, and are applicable whether you decide to speculate via a spread betting application or through more traditional methods such as a stock broker. Financial News, Analysis & Investment Ideas

  • Financial Times - A well respected business news site offer daily updates of news from around the world, with focus on business and financials. This is a subscription based service with a limited amount of free articles per month available to non subscribers. Subscription is a little on the pricey side, but you can cancel at any time.
  • Investors Chronicle - Investors Chronicle has been helping in investors for over 150 years and offers weekly share tips, economic analysis, comprehensive company profiles, and much more. Basic features are free, but to benefit fully from the sites features a subscription is recommended.
  • Interactive Investor - With a mission statement of making its users better off by providing them with 'the hard facts you need to make the right financial decisions', Interactive Investor provides investment tools and news, but also is quite popular for it's lively forums.
  • ADVFN - ADVFN is an extremely popular platform for investors, with news, top lists (percentage gainers, percentage losers etc.), forums, advanced company profiles, level 2, and a lot more.
  • This Is Money - A free financial news and consumer news website, This Is Money brings topical news, mixed with share analysis and tips, and also general money management and investment advice.

Investment Guides & Tutorials

  • Naked Trader - A charismatic individual who has successfully made a life for himself trading privately. No formal background in trading, but clearly an entrepreneurial character with an instinct for a good investment. His original aim was to make £1m on the site, sharing with visitors all the trades that he had made/intends to make. He is now pretty much near that original figure and he may well retire the site soon, but until then check out his 'Markets' section of the website. He is also the author of two very successful (and personally recommended) books on both share dealing and spread betting.
  • Helpful Investor Q&A - A new community powered Q&A site dedicated to personal finance and money related questions, aimed at the UK.
  • Financial Spread Betting - A very complete website covering financial spread betting, with more advanced concepts covered. Well worth a visit to further your understanding of the subject.
